Sanjay Kumar, an official from the police department, said the accused — identified as Navin, alias Bunti, Sanjay, alias Kudi, Amit, alias Vir, and Monu, hailing from Sultanpur and Badoli villages — have been arrested based on inputs. He mentioned that the accused were part of the mob that attacked the team, which had gone to check on illegal sand mining in the area, and had been on the run since the incident.

According to the complaint lodged by Ajit Singh, an HSEB official, while a dumper truck carrying illegally mined sand attempted to run over the team when stopped for inspection on Rasoolpur Road, a group of youths providing cover for the truck assaulted the team with sticks. It is claimed that while the truck did not stop, the accused, who were following it in a car, started assaulting the team with sticks and other crude weapons. Armed with a revolver, the accused threatened to kill them before fleeing.

A dumper truck and a car have been recovered from the accused. They have been taken on remand for the recovery of a country-made revolver and the sticks used during the incident, said the official. The police have registered a case under various sections against eight persons in this regard.

The HSEB was formed by the Home Department of the state to curb unlawful activities, including illegal mining, theft of canal water, electricity, safety of public properties and the sale of illicit or spurious liquor, said a police official.
