Troubled by the “civic nuisance” created by Independent candidate from Gurgaon Assembly segment, Naveen Goyal, as many as 300 senior citizen families of Sector 17-A have launched a ‘Boycott Goyal’ campaign.

Led by the local RWA, these ex-Army men and bureaucrats are residents of the same sector as Goyal. They have been accusing him of causing civic nuisance in the area.

The residents claim that while they tried reasoning with Goyal on many occasions about the inconvenience he was causing to the public by opening his political office at his residence, they were rebuked and even roughed up by his staff.

Pushed into a corner, the residents have decided to launch a campaign to urge residents of Gurugram to vote against him. The residents claim he is not only misusing his residence as a political office which gets over 200 visitors each day, it has led to traffic chaos, parking chaos, littering and noise pollution.

They have alleged that Goyal has virtually taken over the sector park where his workers camp all day — loitering around, littering the place, playing cards and “misbehaving” with senior citizens.

“This man is responsible for creating the same civic issues in our society that he promises to resolve for the city. We are all senior citizen families here and ever since he got politically active, our lives have been hell. His house is on main entry road which is always congested, thanks to wrongly parked cars, buses and his campaign vehicles. They throw garbage on the road and the place is littered with plastic cups and plates. If he can’t keep his own house in order, he can’t be trusted with the city. That prompted us to campaign against him and ensure the city makes the right choice,” said RWA president Rakesh Jinsi.

Local BJP candidate Mukesh Sharma said that the party didn’t consider Goyal for ticket for exactly the same reason. “When his own neighbours are against him, how could the city accept him? People have seen through Naveen Goyal. He will be defeated by the people,” said Sharma.

The sector residents yesterday had issued a “warning letter” to Naveen Goyal. He is yet to respond to it.

Naveen Goyal remained unavailable for comments till the filing of the report.
