Raw material, machinery and footwear products worth lakhs of rupees were burnt to ashes in a fire at a footwear factory in the HSIIDC, Sector-17, in Bahadurgarh industrial town here on Monday. The exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The fire broke out in the wee hours when no one was working in the factory. Highly flammable chemicals and other materials were kept on the premises. Around 4:30 am, the fire brigade office got a call about the incident after which fire tenders were rushed to the site.
As the fire was massive, more fire tenders were called from other places. It took over five hours to douse the flames in which a portion of the building was damaged completely. Tin sheds of the factory, too, collapsed in the incident. Wide cracks have developed in the building at many places, said sources.
Ramesh Kumar, Fire Officer, Bahadurgarh, said fire tenders had to work hard to douse the flames due to the presence of flammable chemicals and other materials in the factory.
“The fire was so fierce that fire tenders had to be called from Rohtak, Jhajjar and Delhi. The exact cause for the fire will be ascertained after the investigation,” he said.
