Farmers take out tractor march in Ellenabad
BFarmers organised a tractor march in Ellenabad on Monday in support of the ongoing protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders. Hundreds of farmers, riding tractors and trolleys, passed through the main roads of the town, raising slogans against the BJP government.
Prakash Mamera, leader of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), said Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a farmer leader at the Khanauri border, had been on a hunger strike for 21 days. Mamera said that, despite a letter having been addressed to the President, the BJP government had not responded to their demands. The farmers have been protesting for 10 months, primarily seeking a law guaranteeing a minimum support price (MSP) along with 13 other demands, he said.
Mamera accused the Haryana Government of forcefully stopping farmers who wished to march peacefully to Delhi. He said the police have used tear gas, injuring hundreds of protesters. He said farmers across the country stood united with Punjab’s farmers.
After the march, the farmers handed over a memorandum, addressed to the President, to Ellenabad SDM, urging the government to fulfil their demands swiftly.
