Farmer booked on charges of stubble burning in Yamunanagar
A farmer of Ghilaur village of Yamunanagar district has been booked for stubble burning, taking the total number of FIRs registered in farm fire incidents to 29.
The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has also imposed a fine on the violators (farmers) and realised a sum of Rs 45,000 from them.
In a complaint to the police, Deputy Director of Agriculture Aditya Pratap Dabas said Deputy Commissioner Captain Manoj Kumar had imposed a ban on the burning of crop residue in the district. A village-level committee formed to stop stubble burning submitted a report to the department that a farmer of Ghilaur village had burnt paddy stubble in his field on November 15.
He further said the farmer had burnt stubble in his one-acre field in violation of the norms. He added that a case had been registered against the farmer at the Radaur police station on Friday. Assistant Plant Protection Officer of Agriculture Department, Yamuanagar, Satish Kumar Arora said as many as 29 FIRs had been registered against farmers for burning paddy residue in their fields in Yamunanagar district in the paddy harvest season of 2024.
He further said there was a provision to impose a fine of Rs 2,500 in a stubble burning case, but after the Government of India's notification the environmental compensation had been doubled.
Arora said the department had made red entries in 61 khasra numbers on 'Meri Fasal Mera Byora' portal to stop farmers burning stubble from selling their crop at MSP.
“As many as 74 committees were formed at a village level; four committees were formed at the sub-divisional level and one committee at the district level to keep an eye on stubble-burning cases in the district,” said Arora.
