The Agriculture Department in Ambala has intensified its crackdown on farm fires, with two FIRs registered against farmers in Naggal and Barara areas for burning stubble. According to reports, 82 active fire locations were identified, of which 46 were confirmed to have stubble burning, while no active fires were found at 36 locations.

An environment compensation charge (ECC) of Rs 1.05 lakh has been imposed on 42 farmers for setting their stubble ablaze. Additionally, 35 red entries have been made against offending farmers on the “Meri Fasal Mera Byora” portal, marking them for violation.

Dr Jasvinder Saini, Deputy Director, Agriculture, Ambala, said, “Strict action is being taken against farmers who continue to burn paddy straw. Teams are visiting villages, encouraging farmers to avoid burning and take advantage of government incentives for stubble management. No fresh farm fire incidents have been reported in the past two days. However, three officials have been suspended for negligence after multiple farm fire cases were reported in their areas.”

Meanwhile, farmers under the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Shaheed Bhagat Singh) banner submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta, demanding the cancellation of FIRs and red entries.

Gurmeet Singh, district president of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (SBS), said, “The government is targeting farmers with FIRs, fines, and red entries on the portal. Farmers have no choice but to burn stubble as the government has failed to provide adequate equipment. There is no similar action against industries causing pollution. The government should cancel the FIRs and red entries.”
