Farm assn threatens to block stretch of Saharanpur-Kurukshetra road on August 1

A stretch of the Saharanpur-Kurukshetra road near Damla village is in a poor state. This not only inconveniences commuters, but also leads to accidents. Bhartiya Kisan Union (Tikait group) has threatened the local administration to block the road on August 1 if the stretch is not repaired by July 31.

A stretch of the busy road is completely damaged and has developed potholes near Damla village. This badly damaged stretch of the road has led to increased incidence of accidents and traffic jams, said Subhash Gurjar, district president of BKU (Tikait).

He said the government was paying no attention towards solving the problem.

“It is a matter of great concern that ministers, MLAs and senior officers of the local administration pass through this stretch every day, but they don’t get the road repaired. No officer or minister is concerned about commuters losing their lives due to the poor condition of the road,” said Gurjar.

He said soon a delegation of farmers would meet the Deputy Commissioner and urge him to repair this dilapidated stretch of the road.

“If this stretch of the road is not repaired by July 31, farmers under the banner of the BKU will block it on August 1. The responsibility for the inconvenience suffered by people due to the road blockade will rest on the local administration,” said Gurjar.

He urged people of the surrounding areas to assemble in numbers on August 1 to support the BKU.
