The Faridabad Municipal Corporation (MCF) sealed 26 flats and apartments that had come up in violation of the building plan norms in the Sainik Colony here on Tuesday. The civic authorities had sealed around 20 such constructions in this colony last month as part of the drive launched after complaints of violations, according to sources.

Nexus alleged

  • Krishan Lal Gera, a local resident who had filed a PIL on the issue of illegal constructions a few years ago, alleged the presence of a nexus.
  • Gera claimed that basements were being used for commercial purposes in various sectors and residential colonies.
  • The basements, which could be used for storing household goods, air-conditioning equipment or providing accommodation for security, building of toilets, lifts and parking, were being used for residential or commercial purposes.

The flats had been built in the parking area of the multi-storeyed apartments that had come up in the colony in the past few years, it was reported. The drive had been launched on the direction of the Commissioner, MCF, in which all Joint Commissioners heading the zones of NIT, Old Faridabad and Ballabgarh had been asked to get a survey with the directions of sealing the illegal ones, an official said.

“As the drive has been on against illegal basements, proper action will be taken against the violators,” said Gaurav Antil, Additional Commissioner, MCF.
