Family attacked over festivities
The police have registered a case of vandalism and attack on a family by a mob in Subhash Colony of Ballabhgarh for bursting crackers. No arrest has been made so far.
According to the complaint lodged with the police, the incident took place on the night of October 27 when the younger son of one, Durga Prasad, was lighting lamps and bursting crackers in front of his house. It is alleged that a youth belonging to the Muslim community, identified as Rashid, came out of his house and hit the minor with a chair after a communal outburst against him and the family. It is claimed that while the family members rushed out to help him after hearing his cries, an altercation took place between the two families. It is alleged that a mob of around 50 to 60 people, which had gathered at the spot, started pelting stones at the house and attacked the family of Durga Prasad. It is also claimed that some of the accused identified as Ashiq, Rashid, Salman and Mewati entered the house of the Hindu family and started misbehaving with the members, including women. The accused not only beat up family members, but also vandalised their house, according to the complaint. The scuffle was captured on the CCTV installed in the locality.
Rekha, one of the women members of the victim family, said they had been getting threats from some people who wanted them to leave the locality. While the police were informed about the matter, the affected family put up a poster offering the house for sale in order to migrate to some other place, it is claimed.
The police have registered a complaint and have launched an investigation into the matter, said a police official. He said raids were being carried out by the police to nab the accused.
