With Ahirwal gaining a new-found importance in the forthcoming Assembly elections. Rohtak MP and senior Congress leader Deepender Hooda has raised the demand for Ahir regiment. After the conclusion of a successive road show in the region, he now plans to raise the demand for a separate regiment to celebrate contribution of Yaduvanshis or Ahirs in the armed forces. The Rohtak MP, while taking to X posted his application submitted in Parliament to raise this issue in zero hour.
According to his submission, “Valour of Yaduvanshis needs no introduction. Ahirs have been in forefront of safeguarding the motherland since time immemorial. Be it attacks of Nadir Shah or Taimur, revolt of 1857, war of Independence, war against Pakistan or Indo-China war and Kargil war. They have stood by the nation and laid their lives. It’s high time we give them their due recognition. In zero hour I want to demand constitution of Ahir regiment without any delay from the Defence Minister.”
Deepender conducted a successful road show in Ahirwal under the Congress’s ongoing campaign ‘Haryana Mange Hisaab’.
He had during his Lok Sabha lection campaign promised in Ahir Assembly segment Kosli that if elected he would take up the long-pending demand of Ahir regiment and see its met.
Kosli, the Ahir dominated Assembly segment, has been a roller coaster ride for Deepender which had lead to his defeat in the 2019 elections, but contributed to his victory this time with a lead of just two votes. Kosli happens to be a segment that has ‘Army villages’, where the Central Government’s short-service Agnipath scheme is believed to have made an impact on the poll result. He led an intense campaign there promising to take up the demand for Ahir regiment and abolition of the Agnipath scheme. Walking the talk, Deepender has now raised the regiment demand. The norms do not allow caste-based regiment and the BJP had during the Lok Sabha elections announced that they were working on a regional regiment, the Ahirwal regiment.
