A demolition drive was conducted by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in Sectors 49 and 56 along the Southern Peripheral Road on Monday.

During the operation, enforcement teams cleared the Banjara market, which was recently re-established after the demolition last week, along with building material shops and five nurseries covering three large areas.

District Town Planner RS Bath, Assistant Town Planners Mange Ram and Satinder Kumar, along with other officials from the enforcement wing, carried out the demolition drive, which lasted more than four hours.

Although encroachers in the Banjara market resisted the demolition efforts, the DTP did not heed their protests. In the presence of police forces, the commercial shanties redeveloped by the Banjaras were demolished during the operation.

The enforcement team also visited the bus stand road in Sectors 21, 22 and 23, as well as Palam Vihar Road, where they urged encroachers to remove their structures voluntarily.
