The office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) here has requested that police initiate legal action regarding an incident in which two employees of the District Election Office in Sector 12 were allegedly consuming alcohol on the premises. This is reportedly the third such incident in a government office in the city within the past three days.

The letter from the DC’s office to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Central Police Station, states that two election office employees — Sunil Kumar, an assistant, and Sunder, a sewadar (peon) — were seen consuming alcohol in the office on the night of November 9, as shown in a video clip that went viral on social media and was presented to the office. A wine bottle was also visible on the table in the clip.

“As the video clip is forwarded to your office, you are requested to take appropriate action on the incident, with information provided to the undersigned,” stated the letter from the Deputy Superintendent on behalf of the DC’s office, dated November 8. Show-cause notices were also issued to the two employees.

Earlier this month, similar incidents reportedly took place at Municipal Corporation offices in Sector 6 and the Ballabhgarh zone, where employees were allegedly seen consuming alcohol on cameras at these locations. Police action on these cases is still pending.

Yashpal Yadav, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Police Department, said the matter would be inquired at the office from where the complaint would be lodged, if any. He added that the police could only act if a complaint was registered. Meanwhile, an official from the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) confirmed they had not yet received any formal complaint regarding the recent instances of alcohol consumption in its offices.
