Programme on drug addiction

Kurukshetra: An awareness and education programme on drug addiction and substance abuse was organised at the Indira Gandhi National College in Ladwa. Principal Dr Kushal Pal said, “Today our country is controlling the most serious problem among youth as they are moving towards drug addiction. Almost every third person is suffering with some serious type of drug addiction.” He said such programmes created awareness among students thus were necessary. At the beginning of the programme, the chief guest was welcomed by Misha, District Youth Officer and Kanta, accounts and programme supervisor. Dr Sonia Rani, Assistant Professor at Shaheed Udyam Singh College, Matak Majri; Dr Pinky, Assistant Professor at Hindu Girls College, Jagadhri; Dr Yogesh Singh Mohan, Assistant Professor at DAV College, Sadhaura; and Dr Surinder Sharma, Assistant Professor at IGN College, Ladwa, addressed the students.

Poster exhibition on cancer

Rohtak: A poster exhibition was organised at the Regional Cancer Department of the PGIMS here to mark National Cancer Awareness Day. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Laxmi Dalal, former Principal at Government College of Women, while Dr Ashok Chauhan, Head, Department of Radiation Oncology, PGIMS, was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chauhan said the exhibition was aimed at making people aware of cancer. On getting information from here, they would share it with their family members and friends. Dr Laxmi Dalal, said there was no time to fear from cancer but to find out its symptoms in time and treat it. “With the latest technologies in the medical world, many types of cancer can be cured,” she added. Dr Rakesh Dhankar, another professor of the department, said, “People should identify the symptoms of cancer and consult a qualified doctor. They should also be cautious of misleading advertisements and get their treatment done in a reputed hospital,” he added.

Road safety awareness programme

Sirsa: JCD Vidyapeeth's BEd College auditorium hosted a road safety awareness programme, organised by the NSS, YRC, NCC, and the Road Safety clubs to educate students and staff on the importance of road safety. Key attendees included road safety officer Saurav Kumar, SPO Jagmeet Singh, with Dr Jai Prakash, Director General of JCD Vidyapeeth, presiding over the event. Dr Prakash encouraged students to adopt safe practices on the road, emphasising the institution's commitment to promoting road safety through regular programmes. He noted that by following traffic rules, accidents could be significantly reduced. A road safety competition, including a lucky draw, is scheduled for November 12 as per the orders of the Traffic Department. Saurav delivered a lecture on preventive measures like using pedestrian crossings, wearing seat belts and helmets and maintaining speed limits.
