ED raid at former Congress MLA’s premises in Samalkha
A team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the residential premises of former MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker at Samalkha on Friday evening. But Chhoker was not found at his residence. The ED team left from his house late at night.
Notably, the ED had conducted raids on the premises of Chhoker in March and July also. After conducting the raids, the ED has registered cases against him and his son. Chhoker’s son was also arrested by the ED and he is in judicial custody. Chhoker has not been arrested in the case so far.
Chhokar has also been in a controversy regarding a real estate company, Mahira Homes, at Gurugram. Chhoker’s son is a director of the Mahira Homes real estate company. The Gurugram police have registered a case against the directors, associate companies and authorised signatory of the Mahira Homes Private Limited for allegedly submitting forged and fabricated plans regarding the licence obtained in 2022 and additional licence in 2023 on the complaint of DTP (Enforcement) recently.
The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has already cancelled the licence of Mahira Homes.
Chhokar was elected MLA first time in 2009 on Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) ticket but later, he joined the Congress. He lost the elections in 2014. He was elected MLA on Congress ticket from Samalkha in 2019. He was considered to be an aide of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
The Congress fielded Chhoker from Samalkha in the recently held Assembly elections but he lost. BJP’s Manmohan Bhadana defeated Chhoker by 19,315 votes.
