Don’t visit headquarters needlessly, college lecturers told

The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) has directed lecturers posted in government colleges across the state not to visit the headquarters unnecessarily as it adversely affected the study of students in their college concerned.

It also directed college principals not to issue authority letters to lecturers for visiting the headquarters, except in an urgent matter asked for by the office.

“Lecturers in many government colleges visit the headquarters for their personal purposes, like promotion, pay fixation, etc., after getting an authority letter from the college head while these issues are resolved by the headquarters itself. Lecturers’ absence takes a toll on the studies,” said sources.

“It has been observed that apart from administrative work/information sought by the directorate, for which there is barely need of visiting of the lecturers/college staff, the lecturers from the various colleges are frequently visiting the headquarters unnecessarily for the purposes of getting their as well as of their colleagues’ pay fixation done,” reads a letter issued by the office of the Director General (Higher Education) to the college principals recently.

The letter further states that the lecturers use to visit the headquarters along with other lecturers who were not asked to do so. It also affects the smooth functioning of the branches concerned of the DHE.

“The DHE authority has taken a serious view on this tendency of the lecturers visiting headquarters unnecessarily, and hence directed them not to visit for the purpose of getting pay fixations done by hand/submitting/receiving service books by hand or for any other work/purposes for which there is proper procedure required to be adhered with by the branch(es) and could be done in due course (except urgent court cases),” the letter adds.

Lokesh Balhara, Principal, Pt Neki Ram Sharma Government College, said college teachers had been informed about the latest directions.
