‘Dilli Chalo’ to resume after Haryana removes barricades: Farmer leaders
Chandigarh, July 16
Farmer unions protesting at the Punjab and Haryana borders will march towards Delhi once the Haryana Government removes the barricades and opens the borders.
This announcement was made by farmer union leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Abhimanyu Kohar, Surjit Singh Phool and others here today. The leaders said the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha would start their “Dilli Chalo” march, with all their belongings and tractor-trailers, after the roads were opened. They said they would continue to press for their demands, including a legal guarantee for MSP on all crops.
They also urged traders and businessmen to join them in their demand for the removal of barricades put up by the Haryana Government. “We will hold a convention in Delhi on July 22 and ask Opposition leaders to raise our demands in Parliament,” they said.
“The farmers affiliated with the two groups of unions have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders since February 13. The agitation will continue till our demands are met,” said Jagjit Singh Dallewal while talking to mediapersons in Chandigarh.
Recently, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Haryana Government to open the Shambhu border. “It is now clear that farmers have not blocked the highway, but it is the Haryana Government that has blocked it,” said Surjit Singh Phool.
Dallewal also expressed farmers’ lack of faith in the SIT set up to investigate the cause of death of farmer Shubhkaran Singh during the initial days of the protest.
