Sirsa, July 16

Jannayak Janta Party’s (JJP) general secretary Digvijay Singh Chautala has urged the state government to grant district status to Dabwali. He argued that if the government could make Gohana a district, the same should be done for Dabwali, which meets all the necessary criteria.

In a statement to the media, Chautala highlighted that Dabwali is Haryana’s largest subdivision, bordering Punjab and Rajasthan, with around 71 villages. He said Dabwali was declared a police district on May 14, 2023. Dabwali is 60 km from Sirsa district headquarters, making it a logical candidate for the status of a district.

Chautala pointed out that Sirsa is the largest geographical district in Haryana, spanning 4,277 square km, while Panchkula is the smallest at 898 square km and Dabwali subdivision covers 1,058.33 square km. The area has a significant history, with a railway line established in 1883, and is a leading producer of cotton.

Chautala highlighted the recent decision to make Gohana a district, which is 40 km from Sonepat district headquarters. Similarly, Dabwali is 60 km from Sirsa, with some villages even further away up to 70 km.

The JJP has expressed its support for the campaign to make Dabwali a district. The Sirsa unit of JJP sent a letter backing the demand on Tuesday, stating that the JJP supports the move to make Dabwali a full-fledged district and acknowledged the role played by Naina Singh Chautala and former Deputy CM Dushyant Singh Chautala in making Dabwali a police district.

The party assured that it will continue to support the campaign, wherever needed. The letter emphasised that making Dabwali a district would lead to development and progress of the region. It also highlighted that district status will help control the drug menace, leading to a happier and healthier youth and community.

Digvijay Chautala has intensified activities in Dabwali and has been visiting various villages in recent days.

It is speculated that he may contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Dabwali, setting up a potentially interesting battle, especially with other members of the Chautala family likely to run.
