Devender Babli’s wealth doubled in 5 years, reveals affidavit

Income more than six times higher than that in 2019

BJP candidate and sitting MLA from Tohana Devender Babli’s total wealth nearly doubled over the last five years, according to the affidavit submitted by him along with his nomination on Saturday.

According to the document, Babli’s total assets now amount to Rs 28.11 crore. His assets were Rs 15.35 crore during the previous elections.

Devender Babli, who won the Tohana Assembly seat in 2019, was appointed the Development and Panchayats Minister on December 28, 2021.

According to the affidavit, Babli’s annual income has also significantly increased — from Rs 8, 93, 980 in 2019-20 to Rs 51, 10, 630 in 2023-24.

This means his income is now more than six times higher than it was in 2019.

His wife, who filed as a covering candidate, has also witnessed a significant increase in wealth, with her assets growing by approximately Rs 7.25 crore. The couple has minimal liabilities, with only a Rs 1.75 lakh KCC loan.

Babli also inherited an ancestral property worth Rs 1.65 crore. Neither Devender Babli nor his wife have any legal cases filed against them.

The affidavit further revealed that Babli holds shares worth Rs 2.5 lakh in two companies, and has provided a Rs 1.40 crore advance to the firms in which he holds stake.

His wife has also extended an advance of approximately Rs 2.5 crore to various companies. Babli has four bank accounts, one of which was specifically created for the election.

Combined, these accounts hold Rs 81.96 lakh, while he has Rs 84,000 in cash. His wife Sunita has Rs 26.42 lakh in her bank accounts, with an additional Rs 75,000 in cash.

In terms of assets, Babli’s gold holdings have increased from 28 ‘tolas’ in 2019 to 30 ‘tolas’ in 2024, valued at Rs 20 lakh. His wife holds 80 ‘tolas’ gold, worth Rs 50 lakh, and owns diamonds valued at Rs 10.5 lakh. As for vehicles, Babli owns a Fortuner valued at Rs 3 lakh, and a scooter worth Rs 70,000. His 2019 convoy included a BMW car and a Maruti Zen, which are no longer part of his current fleet.
