Despite Kangana Ranaut’s apology, political storm continues in poll-bound state
After the BJP distanced itself from actor-MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement on bringing back the three farm laws (now repealed), she posted a video on X today withdrawing her comments. However, the controversy has not died down, as several parties in Haryana have reacted to it.
The Congress latched on to her controversial comments on Tuesday and made it an issue in Haryana, which is going to the poll on October 5, by posting it on X, the BJP had to rebut her remarks.
Today, MP Ranaut posted a video statement on X. She said as BJP workers, they needed to uphold the dignity of the PM’s words, who had repealed the farm laws. However, the political storm she created has not calmed down in Haryana.
During a press conference in Chandigarh, Supriya Shrinate, chairperson of the Congress’ social media and digital platforms department, said: “The BJP cannot dismiss this statement as Kangana’s personal opinion because she is not just a local-level party worker but an elected MP.”
She pointed out that the BJP leadership had made Ranaut issue this statement as part of a calculated strategy. According to her, Ranaut’s statement has exposed the true face of the BJP, and it is evident that the party intends to re-implement the three controversial farm laws.
“Now, it is up to the people of Haryana to decide whether they want to bring back to power a party that imposed laws against which farmers struggled for a long time, endured police brutality, and where 750 farmers sacrificed their lives,” she said.
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, who campaigned in Rohtak and Bhiwani today, said it reflected the BJP’s intention to bring all three laws back. “When the farmers’ movement took place, someone from every house came to the Delhi border. As Delhi CM, I served them for 13 months. I used to send tankers of water and food. When PM Modi felt that he would lose, he withdrew all three agricultural laws. But now alarm bells are ringing; these people have bad intentions,” he said.
In Uchana Kalan, former Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala said the BJP MP’s irresponsible statement on bringing back the farm laws “is a conspiracy of the central BJP leaders.” Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, while campaigning for his party’s Adampur candidate, said the “BJP was trying to gauge the pulse of the farmers to know what their reaction would be through a statement from its MP.” He added that no power in the country could restore the repealed laws after the formation of the Congress government in Haryana.
