Sirsa, August 23

Employees of the All Haryana Power Corporation Workers Union protested by wearing black armbands in Sirsa today. The protest was led by the city sub-unit president of the union, Manmohan, and the industrial unit head, Meet Chawla.

Babulal, state vice-president of the union, said the protest was part of a two-day statewide demonstration called by the Sarv Karmchari Sangh. The protesters expressed their resentment with the state government for failing to engage in dialogue with employees over the past decade and for breaking promises made to workers.

Recently, a state-level convention of the Sarv Karmchari Sangh in Kurukshetra saw union leaders from various departments uniting to address issues affecting both public and employees. The key demands include creation of a permanent policy for temporary workers, restoration of the old pension scheme, scrapping of privatisation and filling up of vacant positions. Rajesh Bhakar, a district leader from Sirsa, said they would intensify their protest to challenge policies affecting workers, farmers and labourers.
