Delhi's waste mafia adding to woes: Gurugram MLA

Facing a backlash for Gurugram’s deteriorating sanitation situation, the Gurugram MLA has now accused Delhi of adding to its waste woes.

MLA Mukeh Sharma has accused the ‘waste’ mafia of Delhi of illegally dumping Delhi’s waste along the Gurugram Delhi border and pointed out four key sites facing the issue. Sharma had accused Delhi authorities and the police of turning a blind eye to vehicles which dump waste in Haryana every night.

Sharma has shot a letter to the CM Nayab Singh Saini highlighting the issue and seeking his intervention. According to Sharma, these trucks and dumpers come every midnight and dump tons of waste at four sites in Bajghera, Sector 21, Wazirabad and Carterpuri village of Gurugram.  "We fail to understand how they escape the otherwise alert Delhi Police each night. I have written to the CM seeking his intervention in persuading Delhi to help in dealing with this menace,” said Sharma.

He has also written to the Gurugram Police Commissioner to increase patrolling along these areas and show zero tolerance to the nuisance. “ We have asked them to impound any vehicle trying to dump waste here. The police should not see whether it’s a official vehicle from Delhi, MCG or anybody. Dumping at sites other than designated ones is illegal and that needs to be checked,” said Sharma.

Sharma had raised the issue in a recent coordination meeting with Divisional Commissioner RC Bidhan. Though committees were made to check these four spots, Mukesh feels that the issue needs involvement of the state machinery and the local police.

Mukesh after winning elections had announced a garbage-free Gurugram in 100 days. With just 40 days to go he is still to make any major headway . The biggest challenge being cited by him is illegal dumping and he has now asked both MCG and police to deal with same.

“Every single day since last year, these trucks with goons come and drop garbage here. We tried our own village patrol, engaged in violent scuffles and filed numerous complaints, but nothing worked. We did get promises in elections but sanition has not improved even by an inch in our village and it’s high time that local MLA’s and ministers acted,” read a representation submitted to the MLA by Bajghera village representatives.
