The Delhi Police have pitched tents and placed cemented and iron barricades with barbed wires, huge iron boxes and sacks filled with sand placed at the Tikri border in view of the farmers’ Delhi march.

No movement of the police was witnessed on the Singhu border in Sonepat district on Friday while the barricades and concrete boulders have been lying as usual on one side of the highway there for the past some months.

Fully prepared

We are fully prepared to handle any sort of situation. Cemented and iron barricades have been kept at the Bahadurgarh-Tikri border while vehicles are being allowed to move as usual so that people don't have to face any problem. We are in constant contact with local farmers.

Tikri and Singhu borders were the epic centres of the farm protest in 2020-21 as protesters stayed put here for over a year against the three agricultural laws. Both the borders are open for vehicular traffic while the police of both states -- Delhi and Haryana -- are on alert and keeping a tab on the situation. They have also established coordination between them to exchange the information about the farm protest.

“Two companies of personnel have been kept on standby in Bahadurgarh town. However, we have not yet got any input about the farmers’ movement towards Tikri border,” said an official of the Jhajjar police.

Bahadurgarh DCP Mayank Mishra along with police officials today visited the Bahadurgarh-Tikri border and took stock of security arrangement there.

“We are fully prepared to handle any sort of situation. Cemented and iron barricades have been kept at the Bhadurgarh-Tikri border while vehicles are being allowed to move as usual so that people don't have to face any problem. We are in constant contact with local farmers,” said Mishra.

The Singhu border located on the NH-44 is the main entry to Delhi and thousands of vehicles ply through the border daily. Recently, the Sonepat DC wrote to the Delhi Police for opening more lanes of the main carriage way on both sides on NH-44 as many barricades were kept there for a long time. The farmers’ call for the Delhi march has made the barricades useful again.
