Member of Parliament (MP) Deepender Hooda while accusing the BJP government of working against farmers’ interest said it was working to push the farmers back into the same quagmire of poverty from which Ch Chhotu Ram had pulled them out.

Deepender was addressing a gathering at a function held to mark the birth anniversary of farmer leader Deenbandhu Ch Chhotu Ram in Sampla town here on Sunday.

“The BJP government had brought three farm laws, but the farmers understood its intention and succeeded in saving agriculture by fighting for a long time against these laws. Over 750 farmers sacrificed their lives in the farm protest. Still, the BJP government is working against the farmers’ interest. Today, the farmers will have to struggle unitedly to protect their land,” said Deepender.

He said the farmers had reached the brink of devastation in the BJP regime. On one hand, the government was claiming that there was no shortage of DAP fertiliser while on the other hand, the farmers were not getting fertiliser even after standing in queues for the whole day. Even women farmers had to stand in queues for several days to get a single sack of fertiliser, he claimed.
