Sikh preacher and Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee’s (ad hoc) Dharma Prachar Committee chairman Baljit Singh Daduwal has been made the president of Shiromani Akali Dal (Azad), recently formed to contest the religious elections and resolve Sikh issues.

His name was announced in a religious congregation organised at Gurdwara Patshahi Chhevin in Kurukshetra on Friday. HSGMC (ad hoc) members and office-bearers also attended the event.

Daduwal said, “A five-member committee was formed to select the president of SAD (Azad), and I am thankful to the committee for giving me the responsibility, after consulting the community members, and with the support of all, I will fulfil my responsibility with dedication. We will raise the issues of the community with the government and get them resolved. The committee will also field candidates for the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) elections.”

The committee would announce the office-bearers, district presidents and candidates soon, he said, appealing to the community members to suggest good candidates. "Nearly 3 lakh votes have been prepared so far and we appeal to all eligible community members to get their votes prepared for the election,” he said.

The SAD (Azad) president said the government should also accept the demands of farmers. Both the government and farmers should resolve the issue through dialogue, he stated.
