The cyber cell of the local police has arrested two persons for duping residents in the name of opening bank accounts in a fraudulent manner.

Inspector Naveen Kumar, incharge, cyber police station, said the accused, identified as Satish Verma, a resident of Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh), and Mujahideen, a resident of Pinangana, were nabbed by the police near the KMP bridge on Hathin Road on the basis of a tip-off last evening.

He said the accused were residing in Gurugram in a rented accommodation from where they would run the online racket. It was revealed that the accused used to contact clients online and offer help in opening bank accounts in a hassle-free manner, with the facility of some share of the commission for the customers. However, according to the police, the accused used to keep the ATM cards and chequebooks of a few of these account holders on some pretext and withdraw money. The money withdrawn was passed on to other members of the gang that used to give account passbooks and documents to the unsuspecting clients. Most of these victims belonged to poor or lower middle-class families, it was claimed.
