Cyber fraud: 15 nabbed for duping people of Rs 71 crore in Gurugram
The Gurugram cyber police have arrested 15 cyber fraudsters for allegedly duping hundreds of people over Rs 71 crore. Seven mobile phones have been recovered from their possession.
The accused were identified as Deepanshu, Chand Shah, Dheeraj Joshi, Pranav, Ashish, Sahil, Kamlesh Sharma, Vasudev, alias Vasu Sharma, Chogaram, Gulab Singh, Rohtash Saini, Kartik Saini, Vinod, Sonu and Durgesh.
During investigation, the police found that the accused would pose as fake officers of FedEx to cheat people. Some of the accused had also promised their victims higher return on investments in the stock market.
“A total of 6,103 complaints and 253 cases are registered against the accused across the country. Of these, 13 cases are registered in Haryana, including three in Gurugram,” said Priyanshu Dewan, ACP (Cyber).
The accused were arrested in November and December. After reviewing the data from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the police found that these 15 accused had defrauded people of Rs 71.15 crore across the country.
“The accused used to commit crimes of fraud in the name of investment and by cheating people through Fedex (by posing as fake officers). Further investigation into the matter is underway”, said ACP Dewan.
