Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda today expressed concern over traders’ safety amid the continuing incidents of firing and extortion. He said recently miscreants fired at hardware and paint showrooms in Jind.

“Such incidents one after another clearly show that the law and order in the state has collapsed. Miscreants are committing crimes fearlessly. Every section, including traders, is living in the shadow of fear,” he stated. Hooda said a few days ago, traders had called for a bandh in Julana and Hisar in protest against such incidents. but the government did not take any remedial measures.

‘Jungle raj’ will end soon

Highlighting the rising incidents of crime against traders, Hooda said on June 23 in Karnal, an immigration centre owner was shot at and a ransom of Rs 1 crore was demanded from him. On June 25 in Hisar, three miscreants demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore from Rambhagat Gupta, the owner of a showroom in Asia’s largest auto market.

On June 17 in Kharkhoda, a ransom of Rs 50 lakh was demanded from a businessman. On June 16 in Jind, a ransom of Rs 10 crore was demanded from a former sarpanch of Fatehgarh village of Julana. On June 4 in Bahadurgarh, miscreants demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore by making a WhatsApp call to a former Municipal Council president.

On May 28 in Kaithal, a Pundri resident received a call for Rs 10 lakh ransom. Besides, three masked men fired at a shop and demanded Rs 20 lakh. On February 7, a sweet shop owner got a ransom call for Rs 1 crore in Sampla. On January 21, in Sonepat, shots were fired at a famous sweet shop owner and a ransom of Rs 2 crore was demanded from him.

On May 5, in Pehowa, a cold drink wholesaler’s brother was stabbed to death inside his house over extortion. On July 10, three bike riders shot JJP leader Ravindra Saini in Hansi.

Hooda said for the past 10 years, one incident after another had been happening in the state and the government had been clueless. “The BJP government never cared about the lives and property of the people. Therefore, a government which cannot provide security to the people has no right to remain in power,” he stated.
