Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Hooda today not only cornered the BJP government over unemployment, rising crime, inflation and Agnipath scheme but also strongly advocated the demand for the formation of Ahir Regiment.

Hooda, who was addressing party workers during a meeting here, promised the people of Ahirwal — an area dominated by the Yadav community — that he would keep raising the demand for the formation of the Ahir Regiment on every platform.

“Once the Congress government is formed in Haryana, a proposal will also be sent to the Centre regarding this. The formation of the Ahir regiment is not only being demanded by people of south Haryana but the entire country,” said Hooda.

He was accompanied by state Congress chief Udai Bhan, party OBC department chief and former minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, former MP Raj Babbar and Rewari MLA Chiranjeev Rao.

“South Haryana received many gifts such as the Rewari-Rohtak railway line and NH-71 during the previous Congress government. The Congress had even taken steps to make south Haryana a hub of education by establishing institutions such as Central University in Mahendragarh, Indira Gandhi University and Sainik School in Rewari. The Defence University was also approved here during the Congress regime, but the BJP shelved this project after coming to power. The BJP government also cheated the people of the state, including Ahirs, by speaking lies,” he said.

Hooda said, “The state was the No. 1 state across the nation in terms of the per capita income, per capita investment, employment and welfare schemes till 2014, but under the BJP government, the state has become famous for unemployment, crime, drug addiction and misery. It also abolished permanent jobs and implemented exploitative policies such as Kaushal Nigam, under which there are no permanent jobs for the youth, along with no posts, promotions, transparency or reservation. Through such policies, the BJP is ending the reservation for the SCs and OBCs.”

“Why does Haryana have the highest unemployment across nation? Why has the BJP’s Central Government itself called Haryana the most unsafe state across the country? How has the evil empire of intoxication and drugs reached every village, street, locality and house of the state and why is Haryana facing the highest inflation and tax burden in the country?” asked Udai Bhan.

Capt Yadav said the Congress would win more than 70 seats in the upcoming Assembly poll if the tickets were given to the candidates on merit. The people had made up their mind to bring the Congress back to power. He also prominently raised the issue of untreated sewage being discharged into the Masani barrage. Chiranjeev Rao, too, launched a scathing attack on the BJP government over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
