Two days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Mahendragarh, former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s confidante and Congress MLA Rao Dan Singh faced Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids today. The Congress has termed the raids on the Mahendragarh MLA as “politically motivated.”
The ED raided the premises of Dan Singh, a metal fabricating company and its promoters in an alleged Rs 1,392 crore bank loan fraud case today.
Speaking to The Tribune, state Congress president Udai Bhan said, “It is their fitrat (nature). Wherever there are elections, whether in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and now in Haryana, raids take place. The ED becomes active.” Terming the raids politically motivated and being conducted at the behest of the ruling dispensation, he added, “We have faith in the judicial process. Let them (ED) do their work. Even the people have now realised what they are doing.”
Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, who is touring the state under the ‘Haryana Mange Hisaab’ campaign, said everyone knows the BJP’s working style. “The ED and other investigating agencies are being misused to target Congress leaders.” Speaking at a press conference in Sonepat today, he said the ED was being used to pressure opposition leaders, and such raids were not unprecedented as agency misuse has been widespread across the country.
However, CM Nayab Singh Saini in Karnal termed the ED an independent agency that investigates takes action where necessary.
ED acted as per law
