Congress candidate Gogi alleges betrayal by party leaders after election defeat
Shamsher Singh Gogi, former MLA and Congress candidate from Assandh, has accused some party leaders of secretly working with BJP, leading to his defeat in the recent elections. Gogi lost to BJP candidate Yoginder Singh Rana by a margin of 2,306 votes.
Gogi emphasised that his defeat should not be seen as a failure of the Congress party as a whole, but rather as a failure of “Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s Congress”. He pointed out that Hooda, the former chief minister and party leader, did not mention his name during a rally featuring Rahul Gandhi, suggesting a lack of support from Hooda’s faction.
Gogi alleged that some leaders within the party worked against him, openly supporting BJP. “The Congress has been defeated by the Congress, not by BJP, as some leaders were working for BJP against me,” he stated.
Additionally, Gogi expressed surprise at the joining of former MLA Bakshish Singh Virk from BJP to the Congress without his knowledge or consent. “I should have been asked about his joining. Nobody asked me before his joining,” Gogi said.
Despite his loss, Gogi thanked the voters of Assandh for their support, receiving over 52,000 votes. He plans to visit Assandh to express his gratitude personally.
Gogi also stressed the need for a thorough organisational review to determine the reasons behind the Congress’ defeat in the state.
