The ongoing talks between the Congress and the AAP for a pre-poll alliance has rekindled the hopes of the CPM to be a part of this likely alliance on the lines of the recent LS elections.

The CPM is a part of the INDIA bloc and it worked for the Congress and AAP candidates in the state during the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress had contested nine out of 10 seats and the AAP had fielded its candidate on one seat in Kurukshetra. Among them, the Congress clinched five seats while the AAP faced a defeat by a narrow margin.

“The CPM leadership in the state had recently called on Congress general secretary and state party in-charge Deepak Babaria and other senior party leaders, urging them to follow the Lok Sabha suit of contesting elections with all allies of the INDIA bloc to serve common purpose of ousting the BJP from power in the state but they did not seem to be serious about it,” said a CPM leader.

He said this ‘unresponsive’ attitude of Congress made the CPM to get ready for the Assembly poll on its own.
