Karan Singh, one of two crew members who died after an Indian Coast Guard (ICG) helicopter crashed into Arabian Sea off Gujarat coast on Monday, was cremated at his native Davla village here with state honours.

Karan’s younger brother Arjun, carrying his 11-month-old nephew, lit the funeral pyre while people from all walks of life were present for the last rites of the departed soul. Former minister and BJP national secretary Om Prakash Dhankar, Congress MLA Kuldeep Vats and Deputy Commissioner Shakti Singh paid tributes to Karan Singh by laying wreaths on his body.

“The country’s borders are safe due to the martyrdom of heroes like Karan Singh. In times of national disaster, we look towards the Army for rescue. The soldiers of the Army protect the country’s borders by sacrificing their lives and are ready to protect the countrymen in times of natural disaster. The sacrifice of martyr Karan Singh will continue to create a new spirit of patriotism among the youth,” said Dhankar while talking to the media on the occasion.
