Cleanliness drive carried out in Ambala

DC, officials of civic bodies, residents take part in the campaign

Ambala Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta, while participating in a cleanliness drive in Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment, said that collective efforts were required to improve sanitation.

Officials of the Municipal Corporation, Ambala; Municipal Council, Ambala Sadar; Lions Club, Ambala; and members of the Sector-10 residents' welfare association accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the drive.

The sanitation drive was conducted near the vegetable market in Ambala Cantonment and near Vaishno Devi Temple in Sector-10, Ambala city. To improve sanitation, the district administration organises Shramdaan Abhiyan in the district every Friday.

The DC said, “By maintaining cleanliness we can make our city, town and district beautiful. Participation of everyone is very important in this campaign. As part of this initiative, 'shramdaan' was initiated today near the vegetable market in Ambala Cantonment and sector-10 in Ambala City which also aimed at motivating other people to be responsible about keeping their localities clean.”

He said, “Members of the Lions Club and the RWA have played an important role in the cleanliness drive today, and this will motivate other organisations and associations to come forward and participate in the initiative in the coming days."

He said that every week, on Friday, the Sub-divisional Magistrates (SDMs) in Ambala Cantonment, Naraingarh, Barara and Ambala city run the campaign in their respective areas. Along with employees if institutions, residents of localities are also volunteering towards the cause. Collective efforts are required to improve sanitation in our surroundings and keep diseases at bay," he said.

Under the 'shramdaan' campaign, garbage was lifted and drains were cleaned. Bushes and weeds from empty plots in Sector 10 were also removed.

Ambala City SDM Darshan Kumar, Ambala Cantonment SDM Satinder Siwach, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Puneet Kumar, Municipal Council Executive Officer Ravinder Kuhar, Chief Sanitation Inspector Vinod Beniwal were among those present on the occasion.
