Clash over land dispute at Rania dera, 6 hurt in gunfire

A violent clash erupted on Sunday morning between two factions over a land dispute at the Namdhari dera in Jiwan Nagar, Rania town, Sirsa. The clash, which involved gunfire, resulted in six people getting seriously injured.
The conflict arose when followers of Satguru Uday Singh attempted to take control of 12 acres adjoining the Jiwan Nagar Namdhari dera. This land is also claimed by Thakur Dalip Singh, brother of Uday Singh, who manages the Jiwan Nagar dera.
According to Sukhchain Singh, a former village sarpanch, the followers of Uday Singh arrived at the site with the intention of seizing the land. That led to a confrontation with Dalip Singh’s supporters.
During the confrontation, both sides resorted to gunfire. Around 250 of Uday Singh’s followers were involved in the attempt to take control of the land. The gunfight resulted in six people getting seriously injured.
The police were called to the scene as the situation escalated, but upon arrival, they too were fired upon. In response, the police used tear gas to disperse the crowd and restore order.
Superintendent of Police Vikrant Bhushan also arrived on the scene to assess the situation. A significant police force has been deployed in Jiwan Nagar to prevent further violence. The injured were taken to Agroha Medical College for treatment.
The dispute over the 12 acre plot is ongoing. Sukhchain Singh said that followers of Dalip Singh were caught off guard as they were in their fields spraying pesticide when the violence broke out. The attackers, who appeared to be prepared and armed, fired indiscriminately at them.
