Celebrating spirit of Haryana: Kurukshetra University’s Ratnawali festival begins
The 37th four-day state-level cultural festival ‘Ratnawali’, commenced at Kurukshetra University on Friday. The university pulsates with energy as thousands of students converge to rediscover their cultural roots, immersed in the timeless rhythms of folk music and traditional lifestyle. The Department of Youth and Cultural Affairs (DYCA), Kurukshetra University, is organising the festival from October 25 to 28.
Over 3,000 participants from across 300 colleges of Haryana gathered to showcase Haryanvi songs, dances and folk-pop fusion. A traditional Haryanvi village has also been set up on the campus. The ambiance resembles old Haryana villages, allowing the youth to experience their heritage. Women in traditional attire welcome visitors, sharing stories about their culture.
In year 1985, the Ratnawali festival started with nearly 300 students participating in eight disciplines, but over the years it has turned into a mega-event. This year, about 3,000 students are participating in 34 disciplines.
The chief guest of this ceremony, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Director BV Ramana Reddy, said cultural festivals like Ratnawali nurture innovative and creative ideas in students and help them in showcasing their artistic expression. Ratnawali instils the spirit of community living, Haryana's rituals and awareness of the cultural surroundings in the youth.
He emphasised, “Creativity lies within each of you, but it needs the right platform. Ratnawali provides ample space for expression. The importance of preserving tradition amidst modernity, praising the youths for their enthusiasm towards folk culture.”
Kurukshetra University Vice Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva said this festival represents and preserves culture, tradition and the spirit of Haryana.
Awarded by President of India, renowned folk artist Prem Dehati, a renowned Haryanvi artist, also formed a strong bond with the audience through his presentation. The Honorary Secretary of Kurukshetra Development Board, Upender Singhal, was also present on this occasion. Meanwhile, DYCA Director Vivek Chawla elucidated the 37 years of Ratnawali.
Events like Haryanvi Loor Dance, Pop Song, Choreography, Duet Ragini, Solo Dance, Saang and Folk Painting exhibition were the highlights of the first day.
As per a university spokesperson, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Power and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will grace the four-day Ratnawali function. Besides, Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal, Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, Social Justice Minister Krishna Kumar Bedi, former Minister Subhash Sudha and several other dignitaries will attend the festival.
