Campus notes: Scholarship of Rs 6 lakh given to three students
Karnal: Annual day celebrations were held at Baba Ram Das Vidyapeeth, Kalvehri. The chief guest was Devender Yodha, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and Civil Judge, Senior Division, Kurukshetra, and Renu Bala Gupta, former Mayor, Karnal. School chairman Vaidya Devinder Batra, manager Sabia Batra, and Principal Neenu Chandna were also present on this occasion. Students showcased their talent through group songs, group dances, poetry recitation and a play based on the life of Lord Rama. A highlight of the event was the announcement of scholarships worth Rs 6 lakh, provided by the family of late Sadanand Ahuja to support and motivate students. Kanupriya, the topper of Class XII, was awarded Rs 3 lakh, Kriti, the second rank holder, received Rs 2 lakh, and Nisha, who secured the third position, was given Rs 1 lakh. Meritorious students excelling in academics and sports, as well as toppers of Class X and Class XII board exams for the past two years were given awards.
IG College students shine at inter-zonal youth fest
Kaithal: Students of Indira Gandhi (PG) Women’s College, Kaithal, brought laurels to their institution by excelling in the 45th inter-zonal youth festival held at IB College, Panipat, which witnessed the participation of talented students from across the region. Out of 12 events, IG College students secured notable positions in three competitions, making their mark. Principal Dr Aarti Garg shared the details, highlighting the outstanding achievements of the students. Komal clinched the first place in collage making, earning a cash prize. The Haryana group song team, led by Priyanka, secured the third place and a cash award. Additionally, Komal also won the second place in the on-the-spot painting competition, further showcasing her artistic skills. College president Ram Bahadur Khurania congratulated the students. He emphasised that competitions were a fundamental aspect of life, particularly in a student’s journey. “Through competitions, students can evaluate their skills and identify areas of improvement, which ultimately boosts their confidence,” he said. He gave away awards to the winners.
Dyal Singh College organises ‘nukar natak’ on drug awareness
Karnal: Dyal Singh College, Karnal, organised a ‘nukar natak’ (street play) on drug awareness and its disadvantages, under the joint collaboration of the Drug and Tobacco Control Cell, National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross Society and Red Ribbon Club. The play aimed at educating students and the community about the severe consequences of drug abuse, raising awareness in an impactful and engaging manner. Performed by a group of talented students, the skit creatively depicted real-life scenarios to highlight how substance abuse adversely affects individuals, families and society at large. The event commenced with an address by the college’s Principal, Dr Ashima Gakhar, who emphasised the importance of spreading awareness against drug addiction. She encouraged students to be role models in society and to actively participate in the creation of a drug-free community.
Junior Asian champion Tapasya honoured at IGN College
Kurukshetra: Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa BA-II year student Tapasya once again brought pride to her institution by winning a gold medal in the inter-collegiate wrestling competition held at the Sports Department of Kurukshetra University. She dominated her weight category by winning all three matches. Tapasya will now represent Kurukshetra University at the All India Inter-University Wrestling Competition to be held in January at Guru Kashi University, Bathinda (Punjab). Tapasya has won a gold medal in the 57 kg weight category at the Junior Asian Championship in Thailand, as well as gold medals in the National School Wrestling Competition and the National Junior Wrestling Competition. Additionally, she secured a silver medal in the National Senior Wrestling Competition in the same weight category. After an extended period of training in national and international wrestling camps, Tapasya returned to the college, where she was welcomed with great enthusiasm. Principal Dr Kushal Pal commended Tapasya’s dedication and perseverance.
