Karnal: The National Service Scheme (NSS) units of Dyal Singh College, Karnal, remembered India's first Minister of Education, MaulanaAbul Kalam Azad, by commemorating his 126th birth anniversary with a meaningful education awareness rally and donation drive under the theme "Inclusive, high-quality education" in the slums surrounding Narsi Village. The event celebrated Azad's contributions to Indian education and aimed at inspiring young minds, embodying his vision of accessible education for all. Principal Dr Ashima Gakhar flagged off the education awareness rally and donation drive. She praised the initiative, saying, "It is heartening to see our students engage in social work, carrying forward the legacy of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. After the rally, the NSS volunteers distributed essential educational supplies, including notebooks, pencils, pens, and other stationery, to more than 50 underprivileged children in the area. NSS programme officers, Dr Shweta Yadav, Deepak Kumar and Dr Chanchal Gupta shared their thoughts.

NCC training camp organised

Yamunanagar: The 14 Haryana Battalion NCC held a combined annual training camp at Ganpati Institute Bilaspur, under the command of Commanding Officer Colonel Jarnail Singh, Administrative Officer Colonel Jitender Singh Dahiya, and Subedar Major Shehnaz Hussain. The camp aimed at imparting comprehensive training to cadets in various disciplines, including map reading, weapon training, field craft, battle craft, and drill. The cadets were told about the importance of environmental conservation, with a special emphasis on reducing plastic use. Key highlights of the camp were physical training, caretaker officers underwent rigorous physical tests to assess their fitness levels. The cadets received specialised training in map reading, weapon handling, and battle tactics. The camp focused on developing leadership qualities, teamwork, and self-reliance among cadets. Evening cultural programmes showcased the talents of NCC cadets.

Girls shine in hockey tourney

Yamunanagar: Guru Nanak Girls College secured first place and won the championship at the Kurukshetra University inter-college hockey tournament, held at the Markandeshwar Hockey Stadium, Shahabad, Markanda. Department head Dr Meenakshi Gupta shared that the college achieved the victory by winning three consecutive matches. The first match was won against Guru Nanak Khalsa College with a score of 4-2, the second match against Arya Kanya Gurukul Mor Majra with a score of 5-0, and in the third and final match, they defeated Government College, Panchkula, 4-0 to claim the top position in the university. Players from the college -- Raveena, Ritika, Mahak, Rajni, Sneha, Manpreet, and Tanu -- were selected for the university hockey team's coaching camp. College director Dr Varinder Gandhi welcomed the hockey team for achieving their third consecutive victory and praised their performance. College Principal Dr Harvinder Kaur also congratulated the team on their outstanding performance and wished them a bright future.

10th convocation of CUH on Nov 18

Mahendragarh: The 10th convocation of the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh, will be held November 18. Governor of Haryana Bandaru Dattatraya will be the chief guest of the convocation. Prof Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the university said 1,338 students and research scholars will be awarded PhD, MPhil, graduate and postgraduate degrees at the 10th convocation of the university. In connection with the event, a meeting was held under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor of the university. Coordinators of various committees constituted for the preparations and smooth conduct of the convocation were present at the meeting. The VC said the university was fully prepared for the convocation and all necessary preparations would be completed soon. The controller of examinations of the university Prof Rajiv Kaushik said this time 65 PhD degrees, 8 M Phil degrees, graduation and postgraduation degrees to 1,338 students would be awarded. As far as the gold medalists are concerned, 46 students will be awarded gold medals for their excellent performance in academics. Under the UG courses, BTech degree will be awarded to 192 students and BVoc degree will be awarded to 83 students and to 990 students in postgraduate courses.
