Karnal: Priyanshi Sandhu, a student of Class X of Adarsh School, Karnal, showcased her oratory skills and grabbed the best speaker award at the national level at the Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate Competition-2024, category II, under the banner of CISCE, at Heritage School, Dehradun. Mansimar Singh, Director of the school, said this year’s competition was tough as all prestigious CISCE schools of the country had participated in the event. “It gives us immense pleasure that our student has been selected as the best speaker across the country,” said the Director, adding that with this award, she had brought laurels to the city and the state as the competition was considered as one of the most prestigious competitions in the country under the CISCE. This competition was held at three levels — zonal, regional and national.This year’s topic of debate was “Alexa is the best friend one could have”. She was awarded the gold medal after the victory. She was honoured by the Director and staff members on Tuesday.

National Librarians’ Day celebrated

Mahendragarh: Central University of Haryana (CUH) celebrated National Librarians’ Day on the occasion of 132nd birth anniversary of SR Ranganathan on Monday. On this occasion Vice-Chancellor Prof Tankeshwar Kumar launched ‘One Library, One Software’, remote access portal and the CUH E-library mobile application. The VC also inaugurated a well-furnished reading room. Dean (Academics) Prof Sanjiv Kumar and Librarian Santosh C H distributed certificates to the prize winners and toppers of various library events and courses organised by the CUH library. The VC said, “We need to follow Dr Ranaganathan’s principles to make the libraries true learning centres.”

I-Day celebrations at dyal college

Karnal: Dyal Singh College began the Independence Day celebrations by reaffirming its commitment towards social responsibility and environmental stewardship by organising a series of significant events on campus on Tuesday. The events were organised jointly by the National Service Scheme (NSS) units and drug and tobacco control cell of the college. The events included an anti-drug pledge, selfie with the Tricolour and a tree plantation drive, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 500 students. The ceremony was initiated by principal Ashima Gakhar, who emphasised the importance of staying away from harmful substances and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

InHerit project launched

Sonepat: Ashoka University has launched the InHerit project in collaboration with Helen Hamlyn Trust to preserve and promote the cultural and natural heritage of India. Going beyond the normative formats such as documentaries on monuments, this student-led initiative is visually archiving and producing videos on memories and knowledge of various indigenous communities. It aims to build awareness and curiosity among the youth by bringing easily digestible episodes on local culinary practices, textiles, crafts, festivals, dance forms as well as natural artefacts. For the project, the InHerit team has travelled across the country, conducting primary research and documenting myriad indigenous traditions, practices, flora and fauna. This includes places such as Nilgiris, Sundarbans, Kaziranga, Mangalore, Paradip, Ramgarh and Jaisalmer.

Students take part in Tiranga Yatra 

Yamunanagar: Students of the NCC unit, NSS unit, Rotaract and Social Work Department of Guru Nanak Khalsa College participated in Tiranga Yatra and took pledge under the ‘Drug-Free India’ campaign. The theme of the campaign was ‘Mantra of developed India’, highlighting that India should be free from drugs. Principal Harinder Singh Kang said their college was dedicated to promoting a healthy, drug-free environment.
