Campus notes: Kalpana’S ROLE IN SPACE HIGHLIGHTED
Karnal: The Physics Association of Dyal Singh College, in collaboration with the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (RC-1), celebrated National Space Day on August 23. The event aimed at raising awareness about space exploration, inspire students’ interest in the field, and remember the contribution of scientists and researchers in space science. Principal Ashima Gakhar inaugurated activities on the occasion. She highlighted the contribution of Kalpana Chawla, an alumna of Dyal Singh College, Karnal, in space research. Associate Professors Devinder Singh and Ambika Rani provided a comprehensive overview of the global understanding of space science. The final segment of the event was a PowerPoint presentation competition, in which 11 teams showcased their research and ideas on various topics related to space science. A total of 110 students participated in this event. Sanyam and Krish bagged the first position, Yashika got the second position, Meenakshi and Ritu secured the third position and Shikha got a consolation prize.
National Space Day celebrated
Mahendragarh: The Nakshatra Club of the Department of Physics and Astrophysics at Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh, celebrated the National Space Day with a series of engaging events and activities aimed at promoting awareness about space exploration and its significance. Prof Pawan Kumar Joshi, School of Environmental Sciences, JNU, as a keynote speaker, discussed recent advancements in satellite technology, emphasising the importance of international collaboration in space exploration. The importance of remote sensing technique in the context of space programme was discussed in details along with several interesting applications, concerning forest and biodiversity mapping, management of natural resources, steps to prevent natural disasters etc. An interactive session with students was held with telescopes set up for observing celestial objects, guided by astronomy experts. Student competitions such as rangoli-making competitions, painting competitions and a quiz on space missions, planetary science and space technology were organised. More than 60 students from various schools and colleges participated in the events.
Recruitment of NCC cadets
Yamunanagar: Guru Nanak Khalsa College recently conducted the recruitment of first-year NCC cadets in a move aimed at fostering discipline, leadership qualities and national service among students. Principal Harinder Singh Kang highlighted the importance of NCC in shaping the youth, stating that the NCC instilled values of patriotism, unity and selfless service among students. Colonel Jarnail Singh, Commanding Officer of the 14 Haryana Battalion, NCC, Yamunanagar, graced the event along with PI Staff Subedaar Roop Singh and Havildar Satwinder Singh. They emphasised the transformative experiences and life skills that cadets gained through their involvement. The recruitment drive was conducted under the guidance? of Administrative Officer Colonel Jitender Singh and Subedaar Major Shahnaaz Hussain. Randeep Singh Jauhar, president of the Governing Body and Managing Committee, stated that the NCC played a crucial role in moulding the youth into disciplined and patriotic citizens.
