Yamunanagar: The team of Seth Jai Parkash Mukand Lal Institute of Engineering and Technology won the Smart India Hackathon-2024. SK Garg, director, congratulated students and staff on the achievement and said it was organised by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi, and the Government of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dharmedra Pardhan, Minister of Education, are the patrons of this Hackathon, which is a premier nationwide initiative designed to engage students in solving some of the most pressing challenges faced in everyday life. It provides a dynamic platform to students to develop and showcase their creative solutions to real-world problems. By encouraging participants to think critically and innovatively, it aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application. SIH-2024 is the 7th edition of Smart India Hackathon. It was first launched in 2017 to foster a culture of innovation and practical problem-solving. This year, 88,221 teams consisting of 4,92,960 students across India prepared softwares for 32,346 problem statements. This year, 40 teams of the institute, consisting of 240 students, participated in the Internal Hackathon. Two teams of the institute were selected for the grand finale of Smart India Hackathon held on December 11 and 12. The team, JM_Tech Avengers won the first prize with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh jointly with the team of Jain College of Engineering and Technology, Hubbali, Karnataka, held at NIT-Surathkal. It put up their idea for the problem statement, ‘A web application specifically designed for Indian coal mines to quantify their carbon footprint and explore pathways to carbon neutrality’, for the Ministry of Coal on the theme ‘Renewable Sustainable Energy’.

Research-writing workshop at CUH

Mahendragarh: The School of Business and Management Studies at the Central University of Haryana (CUH) has launched a five-day international workshop on research writing and publishing through an online platform. The workshop, aims improving the quality of research and enhancing academic publishing skills, has attracted participants from across the globe. In his inaugural address, Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, has emphasised the urgent need for such workshops to elevate the standard of research. He appreciated the School of Management Studies for taking the initiative to organise the event and highlighting that the topics covered would be of immense value to participants, especially in the domain of experimental research. Ranjan Aneja, Dean of School of Business and Management Studies and Workshop Director said this was the third edition of the workshop, with the first two editions held in 2022 and 2023. He shared that the event received an overwhelming support, with hundreds of participants from nine countries across different continents registering for the workshop. Ajay Kumar, the workshop’s convener, introduced the distinguished line-up of speakers, stating that there were nine eminent scholars who were also editors-in-chief of top-tier academic journals worldwide. The workshop kicked off with insightful lectures from renowned experts Prof Vito Tassiello, Liverpool John Moores University, UK, and eight other eminent speakers. Dr Bhushan and Vikash, organising secretary of the workshop, were also present at the inauguration, offering their support to the event.
