Campus notes: Annual sports meet
Kaithal: Indira Gandhi Senior Secondary Public School, Kaithal, held its annual sports meet on its campus on Saturday. Chief guest Mamta Sodha, who was known for her successful attempt to scale the Mount Everest, was welcomed by Jagdish Bahadur Khurania, school president, Ram Bahadur Khurania, president, IG College, Kaithal, school principal and other members of the management committee. Advocate Baljinder Singh, president District Bar Association, Kaithal, Karan Singh Malik, captain of Kabaddi Team, Haryana, Arvind Khurania among others were also present. Students took part in various track and field events. They also participated in athletic events.
Orientation programme
Rohtak: With an aim of enhancing the skills of mathematics teachers and developing their educational efficiency, a one-day orientation programme for mathematics teachers was organised at Radhakrishnan Auditorium. It was held under the joint aegis of the Department of Mathematics of Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) and SCERT, Haryana, Gurugram. MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh, who inaugurated the programme, said science could not be imagined without mathematics. Today, there was a need for teachers to make mathematics interesting, increase the interest of students towards the subject and develop the understanding of students about mathematics. He said in the National Education Policy 2020, special focus had been laid on mathematics. He said there was a need to learn and assimilate mathematics. He stressed on making mathematics easy and interesting at the school level and assured full support of the university in this regard.
Communal harmony campaign week
Yamunanagar: The Department of Social Work at Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Yamunanagar, celebrated its communal harmony campaign week and flag day. The campaign aimed at fostering a sense of communal harmony and national integration among students and faculty and raising awareness about the importance of peace, unity and mutual respect in society. Officiating principal Dr Pratima Sharma said: “This campaign is an essential reminder for all to live in harmony, respecting the diversity that defines our nation.” Sardar Randeep Singh Jauhar, president of the governing body and managing committee, highlighted the significance of maintaining communal peace.
PM Vishwakarma Exhibition
Kurukshetra: Gulzari Lal Nanda Centre, Kurukshetra University, in collaboration with the MSME-Development Office, Karnal, Government of India (Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), inaugurated PM Vishwakarma Exhibition-2024. Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, who was the chief guest during the inaugural ceremony, emphasised the significance of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme to support the hard work and creative genius of artisans. Prof Sachdeva praised the artisans for their perseverance and dedication and said artisans inspire society to work with consistent efforts. Sanjeev Chawla, Additional Development Commissioner, MSME-Development Office, Karnal, gave an outline about the scheme and its benefits.
National PIET quest
Panipat: National PIET quest, held at Panipat Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET), saw outstanding performances from Jind and Sonipat teams. Keshav from Happy Senior Secondary School, Jind, and Pranjal from Rishikul Vidyapeeth, Sonipat, secured first position, winning an electric scooter each and scholarships worth Rs 7,87,200. Ganaur MLA Devender Kadian, who honored the winners, said success had no shortcuts. Over 5,000 students, selected from 70,000 candidates across various states took part in the final stage. PIET vice-chairman Rakesh Tayal said the quest aims to provide scholarships to deserving students, ensuring financial constraints do not hinder their education. Aniket from Geeta Niketan, Kurukshetra, and Preeti from Rising Sun School, Gharaunda, bagged second position. They got laptops and scholarships worth Rs 3,93,600 each. Diya from Bal Vikas School, Panipat, and Moksh from SDMN School, Nilokheri, stood third. They received tablets and Rs 1,96,800 each.
