With campaigning for the Assembly election picking pace, candidates have been reaching out to the masses in Ambala and Kurukshetra. From public meetings to social media, religious events and programmes with local influential people in their communities and societies, the candidates are going everywhere to improve their position.

Public meetings held

We have been going door to door and also holding public meetings throughout the day. We have been receiving tremendous response from public. The voters are well aware of the fact that Congress is in a strong position in the state and is going to form the next government in Haryana. In Ambala Cantonment also, they will vote in the favour of Congress. — Parvinder Singh Pari , Congress candidate from Ambala Cantonment

Shahabad BJP candidate Subhash Kalsana campaigns on Sunday.

Congress candidate from Ambala Cantonment Parvinder Singh Pari, who is trying to persuade party leaders who were not happy with his candidature, besides developing personal contacts with voters, said: “We have been going door to door and holding public meetings and have received tremendous response from public. The voters are well aware of the fact that Congress is in a strong position in the state and is going to form the next government in Haryana. In Ambala Cantonment also, they will vote in the favour of Congress. People from other parties are coming and joining us in large numbers and we are confident to win the election here.”

Former BJP MLA Pawan Saini, who has been fielded from Naraingarh instead of his traditional Ladwa Assembly segment, is trying hard to strengthen his base. Pawan Saini was preparing to contest from Ladwa seat for the third time but the party fielded C M Nayab Saini from Ladwa and sent Pawan to Naraingarh, Nayab Saini’s home turf.

“I feel fortunate because the party considered to field me from Naraingarh Assembly, which is the home constituency of the CM. We have been meeting people and making them aware of the achievements of the party and its policies. The Naraingarh people have given ample opportunity to one family — Ramkishan Gujjar’s — here but failed to develop this segment. I am confident that the people will give me an opportunity and play an important role in forming the BJP government for the third time in Haryana.

Jannayak Janta Party candidate Advocate Vinod Sharma, who is testing his fate from Ladwa, is focusing on developing personal contact. He said: “The BJP government has failed to bring developmental projects in Ladwa and the long-pending demands of a bypass here, girls’ college and improvement in the condition of roads are lying unaddressed. The parties fielded outsiders in Ladwa and they don’t remain in touch with the local residents due to which their issues remain unresolved. I have been appealing to the voters to give me an opportunity and since I am a local resident, I know the issues and can get them resolved.”

BJP candidate from Shahabad Subhash Kalsana, who also faced resentment initially within the party, said: “People of Shahabad elected Ramkaran Kala in the previous election and they have seen that he failed to get the issues resolved. I have been receiving a positive response from the field and am confident that the people of Shahabad will support me and the BJP will form the government in the state.”
