The Haryana Cabinet, slated to meet tomorrow under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, is likely to recommend the dissolution of the 14th Haryana Vidhan Sabha. The Cabinet recommendation will be sent to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya for his nod and a caretaker government will be put in place till a new government is elected.

The dissolution has been necessitated with the government failing to hold the “mandatory” Vidhan Sabha session within six months of the last session. The last session was held on March 13 and another session was due to be held before September 12, before the six-month gap lapses. With the polls announced, the government could not call a session. Also, since September 12 is the last date of filing of nominations and most of the MLAs are unavailable, the government cannot call the session at the last minute.
