In a fierce encounter with terrorists on Thursday night in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, Army soldier Jiwan Singh from Haryana’s Sirsa district laid down his life. The 28-year-old hailed from Rohan village in Sirsa. Early Friday morning, the Army informed his family of his martyrdom.

Jiwan’s body is set to arrive at his village Rohan by evening. The tragic news has left his family shattered; his wife Komal and mother Golo Kaur are inconsolable, while his father, Sukhdev Singh, expressed pride, stating he felt honoured that his son died protecting India.

Jiwan Singh joined the Rajputana Rifles in 2016. Despite coming from a humble background, he served with valour. Married four years ago, he leaves behind his wife and two daughters, aged four and two.
