Rohtak, August 27

BJP workers led by former Rohtak Mayor Manmohan Goel took out a protest march in the city today and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to the local SDM.The BJP workers were protesting against the alleged misbehaviour with a Dalit woman worker of the party by some Congress workers, including the son of local MLA BB Batra.

Dalit woman alleges threat

Alleging that she was receiving threats, Dalit woman worker Rani Kirad said the local MLA’s son should be held responsible if any untoward incident took place with her.

The protesting workers included former Municipal Council Chairman Om Prakash Bagri, former municipal councillor Suresh Kirad, BJP youth wing’s district president Deepu Nagpal and general secretary Manoj Makkar. The protesters marched through the city carrying placards and raising slogans against the local MLA.

They alleged that some Congress workers had intimidated Rani Kirad, a Dalit woman worker of the BJP, while she was distributing pamphlets on Railway Road in Rohtak city on Saturday.

The BJP workers had lodged a complaint at a local police station and staged a dharna in front of the local SP’s residence. Former Haryana Minister of State Manish Grover and state BJP vice-president Satish Nandal also participated in the dharna. However, no action was taken on their complaint, following which the BJP workers took out a march to register their protest on Tuesday.
