BJP starts discussion to shortlist nominees

The two-day brainstorming session of the state election committee of the BJP to shortlist candidates for the Assembly elections kickstarted here today.

The 21-member committee took feedback from the office-bearers from five key districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Nuh, Rewari and Palwal.

Though no senior functionary of the RSS attended the meeting today, the district office-bearers, in separate meetings with the committee members, wanted a ‘bigger role’ for the RSS and nomination of candidates having Sangh roots for the Assembly elections as they had more chances of winning in a tough election.

It was stressed more coordination meetings between the RSS and the BJP should be held in the run-up to polls for better booth management.

According to a senior BJP leader from Gurugram, they highlighted their apprehensions about many probable candidates and party assured that winnability was the only factor that would be considered for the selection.

Several members of the committee who started their career with the RSS before venturing into electoral politcs raised their concerns and gave feedback for better performance in the Assembly polls than the last Lok Sabha elections.

Chaired by BJP state president Mohan Lal Badoli, the meeting was attended by Union Minister and Haryana Assembly election incharge Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, election co-incharge Biplab Kumar Deb, national vice-president Saudan Singh, election management committee convenor Kuldeep Bishnoi, state incharge Satish Poonia, co-incharge Surendra Nagar, national secretary OP Dhankar, general secretary (organisation) Phanindranath Sharma. Union Minister of State Rao Indrajit Singh and central election committee member Sudha Yadav.
