BJP MLA Panwar resigns from Rajya Sabha, lobbying begins
The BJP’s newly elected MLA from Israna (Panipat), Krishan Lal Panwar, resigned from the Rajya Sabha today. Panwar submitted his resignation to Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman, who accepted his resignation.
A former minister, six-time MLA and a prominent Dalit face of the saffron party, Panwar was specially picked up by the BJP to contest the poll from the Israna (Reserved) Assembly segment.
Panwar is a front-runner for a ministerial berth in the new Council of Ministers, to be sworn-in at Panchkula on October 17. He was a minister in the first BJP government headed by Manohar Lal Khattar and was later sent to the Rajya Sabha in 2022 in a bid to woo the crucial Dalit vote bank.
With his resignation from the Rajya Sabha, lobbying has begun among senior party leaders for nomination to the Upper House from Haryana.
Currently, of five Rajya Sabha MPs, the BJP has three members—Subhash Barala, Ram Chander Jangra and Kiran Chaudhry. An Independent MP was also elected with the support of the BJP.
