Citing a shloka from the Gita as the BJP's poll mantra at a public rally, “For the protection of the pious, the destruction of evil-doers, and establishing virtue, I manifest Myself in every age”, Union Minister for Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari urged people to support Gurugram’s BJP candidate Mukesh Sharma, popularly known as Mukesh Pehalwan.

In his cheeky style, Gadkari asked Sharma to give a ‘patki’ to the opponents.

During his address, Gadkari said all under-construction projects worth over Rs 2 lakh crore would be completed by 2024. He said he was not oblivious to the problems of Gurugram, especially traffic congestion, and was working on mega projects.

“Model code is in force, and so, I can’t make any new announcements, but we will have facilities like air buses between Gurugram and Dhaula Kuan. We have planned many link roads to connect all expressways, like NH 8, KMP, Dwarka Expressway, and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Your MP Rao Inderjit Singh kept coming to get projects, and I always stood true to my declarations. I am aware of the NH 8 crisis where a flyover is pending. Will complete it in a year,” said Gadkari.

Asking people to choose development, Gadkari said only the BJP could do it. Development was dependent on water, power, transport, and communication, and only the BJP has focused on these areas, he said.

“Before you cast your vote, think about what was it with 65 years of the Congress and 10 years of the BJP. I can guarantee for my department, I have excelled than them. We have vision, resources, and passion, and that’s what you need,” said Gadkari.

The rally was part of the BJP’s change in campaign strategy in South Haryana areas, like Gurugram, where candidates have been struggling with strong anti-incumbency, and making Central Government and its projects as their campaign pitch. In the last leg of the elections, the BJP here is repeating its Lok Sabha pitch and seeking votes on 'Modi's Guarantee'.
