Accusing the incumbent BJP of betraying Millennium City Gurugram, Congress candidate from the city, Mohit Grover, while addressing a public meeting, said giving the BJP another chance would be “suicidal” for Gurugram.

Taking a jibe at former CM Manohar Lal Khattar’s declarations of turning Gurugram into Singapore, Grover said the BJP, in 10 years, couldn’t even handle basic issues like sewerage cleaning and overflow.

“The Congress took 10 years to make Gurgaon into Millennium City. And in 10 years, the BJP changed Gurgaon to Gurugram, then Kudagram, Gaddhagram and Jalgram. I am amazed at the party’s audacity, blaming the coalition for civic mess while seeking a third chance. Giving the BJP another opportunity will destroy this city,” said Grover.

Grover, who was the second runner-up as an Independent candidate in 2019, is up against BJP’s Mukesh Sharma. A popular Punjabi leader, Grover has been sharply criticising the BJP for the ongoing civic crisis and demanding Sharma address the people’s concerns.

“Before making more promises, Sharma should explain why all this happened — the roads, power, water, traffic, air quality — you name a problem, and we have it. All of this began under the BJP’s rule, and they must be held accountable,” added Grover.

He also targeted the failures of the much-publicised civic services, saying ordinary citizens stood in line for five years for a “property ID”, and the BPL cards of the poor were cancelled. People were harassed in the name of family identity cards, and even the business class was exploited, Grover alleged.

He urged people to vote wisely and change the fate of the city. “Not voting is not a solution, but choosing a better option is. You must oust the BJP once and for all and choose the party that made you cosmopolitan,” Grover added.
