Councillor Bhawani Pratap Singh said that a total of Rs 40 crore would be spent on the construction of streets, of which works worth Rs 10 crore were under way. The tenders for additional works worth Rs 30 crore would be allotted soon, he said.
During the inspection, the councillors interacted with residents and urged them to monitor the construction activities and report to the authorities if they suspect the use of substandard material or any other irregularities. They said strict action would be taken against contractors if any lapses are found.
During the inspection in Ward 17, the technical staff of the MC checked the thickness of gravel beneath the blocks, assessed street levels and reviewed the quality of the ongoing work. Similar checks were conducted in Ward 19, where the dimensions of the blocks being used were verified to ensure they matched the approved specifications.
Pratap Singh said that to ensure systematic progress, the MC had divided the town into groups of 100 streets, with tenders being called for each group. “Once the construction of a group is completed, the tendering process for the next group begins, enabling effective monitoring and maintaining swift progress,” he said.
